Rouge Runners Kids Marathon and Half Marathon presented by Varsity Sports
Announcing Baton Rouge's first Kids Marathon!
To participate in the Rouge Runners Kids' Marathon, you will track your mileage between now and the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon, December 5, 2009. Run a mile a week, starting June 14th, and you'll have run 25 miles! We'll run the last 1.2 miles together in conjunction with the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon, and finish in the same chute the grownups run through. Every kid will get a special finisher's medal and t-shirt.
What do I do?
- Register for the Program at www.active.com, or the AC Lewis YMCA (350 S. Foster Dr.); online registration will remain available until midnight on Thursday, December 3. You can also register in person at the packet pickup time.
- Download the training log here and log in your first 25 miles for the marathon. You can mark off each ¼ mile as you go and have an adult initial in the box for each completed mile;
- When you are halfway through your log (13 miles), take it to the AC Lewis YMCA and get your coupon for a FREE SMOOTHIE from any area SMOOTHIE KING!
- Packet pickup - bring your completed marathon log sheet on Friday, December 4, from 6 to 9 pm at the host hotel (Marriott, 5500 Hiltton Avenue). And, we'll have pizza! If you can't make it on Friday, we will have race morning packet pickup from 6:15 am to 7:00 am at the shuttle bus location in the parking lot in front of the shopping center at the corner of Perkins and Acadian Thruway (in front of the Caterie). Remember, you must bring your marathon and half marathon logs to get the right medal on Saturday! However, if you don't have a log, you can come run the final 1.2 miles to receive a t-shirt and finisher's medal.
- Come to the Baton Rouge Beach Marathon on December 5, where you will run the final 1.2 miles. Parking is extremely limited. Please consider using our Shuttles. Shuttles will run from the Marriott, 5500 Hilton Ave, and the shopping center at the corner of Acadian Thruway and Perkins Road (In front of the Caterie). We encourage you to take advantage of the Shuttles to keep congestion around the park to a minimum. Race morning packet pickup will be at the Shuttle location in the parking lot in front of the Caterie on the corner of Perkins and Acadian Thruway.
The last shuttle will leave the parking lot at that shopping center around 7:00. Please be at the race site by 7:05 am.
The Baton Rouge Beach (Adult) Marathon and Half-Marathon will start at 7:00 am. Once the grownups clear out, we will gather around the starting line and start at 7:15.
We should be finished by 7:45, so you can cheer for the grownups as they finish their race.
What if you didn't complete your log? That's ok - if you completed 12 miles before the race, you can do the "half-marathon". And, if you don't get that much completed, you are still welcome to come run the 1.2 mile run with us on December 5th.
